John Lawrence has been a leading presence in the New York City real estate market since 1988. John entered the real estate scene with a bang, making his first sale on his very first day in the business! His trajectory to sales management was spurred by selling more than 75 townhouses and brownstones in less than two years. He started his sales management career at Bellmarc, where he oversaw the opening of multiple divisions in sales and rentals, creating a dynamic multi-dimensional office under his direction.
After being personally recruited by Dottie Herman in 2006, John moved to Douglas Elliman where he brought a contingent of 50 agents to the Upper West Side office. In his fifteen years at Elliman, he oversaw more than $2 Billion in sales and managed three offices with more than 400 brokers. John excels in managing projects and motivating salespeople to bring out their personal best.
Seeking a new challenge in 2020, John decided to leave Sales Management to create a team that would be poised to become one of the top-producing teams in New York Real Estate. John joined forces with Joe Peraino, a leading Douglas Elliman agent in their Upper Westside office. During his year as co-captain of The Peraino Lawrence Team, John assembled a team of ten agents and brought the team to new heights. On an individual note, he was responsible for one of the biggest deals of the year in Manhattan real estate, selling Apartment #81 at 157 East 57th Street for $35.5M.
Management is a natural talent for John. The desire to lead a team of 20 instead of 400 enables him to practice his unique hands-on, results-driven approach. John is known for his supportive communication style and team-oriented approach. During his career, John has developed the skills that enable him to deal with any problems that may arise in a real estate transaction. With his easy-going manner, combined with his ability to provide clear directives, John makes selling real estate look easy while always getting the job done.
In the Fall of 2021, after much consideration of a strong offer from the Compass executive team and Tony Oakley of the Upper West Side office, John realized that the time was right for one more change. Compass is New York city’s fastest growing real estate company and ranks # 1 in sales for 2021. John is currently putting together a team that extends from Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, to Long Island, Westchester, and New Jersey. John has a broad base of real estate relationships around the country, and the goal of The Lawrence Team is to take his unique and winning team approach nationwide to be able to assist his many clients as they expand their real estate holdings around the country.
